Baked Beans

Ingredients

 

  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Haricot Beans (navy bean, pearl haricot bean, Boston bean, white pea bean, or pea bean)
  • Passata
  • Water
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Maple Syrup
  • Crisp Bacon

Method

Fry the onion and garlic. Transfer to slow cooker and add other ingredients. Cook for several hours.

Ingredients

  • 200g dried haricot beans
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 4 tbsp pomegranate molasses
  • 3 tbsp tomato purée
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tsp mustard powder

Method

Place the dried haricot beans, onions and tomatoes into a slow cooker.

In a spouted bowl, mix together all of the remaining ingredients until well combined. Pour the mixture into the slow-cooker and stir to coat the beans and vegetables as evenly as possible.

Pour over 500ml cold water, place the lid on the slow-cooker, then cook on a high heat for 7-8 hours, or until the beans have absorbed the liquid and plumped up and the sauce has darkened and thickened.

500 grams Bacon (cubed)
1 Onion (chopped)
2 teaspoons Garlic (crushed)
2 tablespoons Honey
1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
800 grams Tomatoes (cans crushed)
1 teaspoon Thyme
1 teaspoon Rosemary
2 teaspoons Paprika
2 Bay Leaves

450 g Navy Beans (picked over and soaked in cold water for 8 to 12 hours)
½ teaspoon Baking Soda
2 Bay Leaves
110 g Bacon (thick sliced)
1 Medium Onion (minced)
¾ dl Mild Molasses (+ 2 additional tablespoons)
¾ dl Dark Brown Sugar (packed)
7 ⅛ dl (720 g) Boiling Water
3 tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup (optional)
1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
2 teaspoons Cider Vinegar
add Salt And Pepper

9 ½ dl (960 g) Water (or more as needed)
1 ⅛ dl Molasses
2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon Salt
¾ teaspoon Dry Mustard

110 g Salt Pork (thinly sliced)
1 Onion (sliced)
